Macau Cultural Center Cafe
We aim to showcase a softer and more flexible side of the interior of the Macau Cultural Center through the café, creating a sense of closeness for visitors and encouraging them to slow down, linger, and engage in deeper conversations.
Regarding materials, we have chosen fabric as the primary decoration for the space. The fabric is a versatile medium that can be shaped, coloured, and woven with different textures and materials.
The nature of fabric aligns with that of the cultural centre—it should provide ample space for people to express themselves freely, stimulate their thoughts, and convey their ideas. Therefore, our spatial design will allow people to adjust and create freely.
The essence of fabric is like a blank canvas, much like the cultural center itself—a canvas for conveying ideas and allowing individuals to express and stimulate their thoughts freely. We utilize fabric as a communication medium between the café and the public. Fabric can be shaped, coloured, and presented with different textures and materials. This allows artists to convey their creativity and make art and culture accessible to everyone.
We design the fabric, a singular material with multiple possibilities, to resemble scrolls. This enables people to adjust the scrolls or manipulate them through folding, altering the spatial effects and purposes of the café.
By combining the blank canvases within the space with lighting and the textures of the fabric, we can create various themes in line with the café's vision. This also allows artists to showcase their works and unleash their creativity. Each visit to the Macau Cultural Center Café will offer a different scene, shaping an atmosphere of tranquillity and comfort while embracing versatility.
